Sculpting: Working on Layers
I did a lot of digital painting in Photoshop and transitioning my workflow to sculpting in Blender I wish there would be something like layers for sculpting. You could sculpt and just delete to get a clean new slate or maybe even blend different layers into each other. Would be great to try out stuff too.
This idea was marked as a duplicate of Sculpting layers.

Something like this is in development -- go down to the "Snapshot" feature on this page .
* @Josephbburg * Thank you! Yes, I meant something like this. In the demo it's some kind of snapshot brush?
I was thinking about how to technically implement this and I came up with the idea of storing a certain state of the object (Snapshot) which the layers could use as a default.
Snapshots seem like a great idea, but rather than just having them conserve a moment in time to go back to (like a history), it could be used to work on several states at the same time (sort of a non-linear history). It would allow to blend or turn on/off modifications (like a blendshape deformer?).
* @Marlon * I don't think it's gone past the experiment shown in the article. At any rate, any discussion of the feature should probably stay on the original topic.

I don’t think snapshot is the same feature. It looks more to layers feature in ZBrush. You can use sculpt layers, adding micro details to the main object. A kind of normal displacement applied to the suface, but painted insitu
