render autosave and slot gridview

Can't tell why render autosave is not default action or a setting in the preferences. I've downloaded two or more clunky add-ons that seem to each have problems. Sometimes blender crashes and I lose work not infrequently. I often work on large images for print output at 8000-20000 pixels and then if it crashes and I haven't gone to "Image>Save>entered name> clicked on Save as Image" it's gone. Curiously, render for animation does have this worked out.

EXTRA - there's gotta be a way to see all slots you've rendered to at once, right? Often the point is to compare renders to see if you've fixed/improved your project, right? A grid? I've never been able to find how to look at more than one render slot at once, help me know how! Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I hadn't even thought of having it restart an already started render. Just that it save ones that are completed like animation renders do. And the grid view for comparing multiple renders.

I guess my comment was to say that it was a distinct and more basic implementation than the link you provided. Do you suggest that I repost them (1. autosave still render as animation frames are and 2. view slots in single window for comparison) as individual requests?

The execution of requests from RCS is poor and low..
