Cycles- Attribute Node Reads Weight Groups
Hey folks, I often use the Cycles Attribute node to use vertex colors in my shaders. I'd like to be able to use Weight Groups as a grayscale factor in my shaders, just like vertex colors. I have a better image but I can't figure out how to upload it except as the thumbnail. So, here's a picture from a forum post somewhere out in the wild:
Anyways, the Attribute node can already access Vertex Color Data by name. I think it would be a simple matter for it to access Vertex Weight Group Data and expose it to the node tree as a grayscale factor.
The weight paint tools are easier to use and more robust than the vertex color tools at this time, thanks to all of the additional tools (gradients, normalize, quantize, levels, etc.), and I would prefer to use Weight Groups wherever RGB color is not needed.

additionally, it'd be great to be able to get other marked geometry- ie) bevel weight, etc.
This would be much better than vertex colors for shaders!
This idea has the added benefit of being usable with the awesome Vertex Group modifiers. I imagine you could use these modifiers to do a lot of stuff you might otherwise need Dynamic Paint for.
This is such a tiny but great idea!
It's already in cycles, vertex group mask can be used from point density texture. But in heavy meshes it loads the processor a lot, the color of the vertices is much faster
@sargast2: Is it possible to do this with an ordinary mesh? I don't think I've been able to. Of course, I really want it in Eevee, which is my new love.
Well, you see the idea in the second image. I'm still a little new to this particular forum!
@Josephbburg: Check the " markdown cheatsheet " that you see linked to the right of your comment preview or below the text field for the body of your proposals. Images have to be hosted offsite. I usually use imgbb.com but there are plenty of others.
Ahh, makes sense. I thought as much, but I was able to up[load the thumbnail image. Thanks.
