On /Off Switch for the Cycles "RayTracing Precision" to solve the overlapping geometry problem
I think an on /off switch for the Cycles "RayTracing Precision" could solve the overlapping geometry problem.
Here are some image
Blender 3.1
Blender 3.0.1
Thanks!

For architectural rendering in particular this is big as you're often models are not developed for rendering and are full of overlapping geometry-- I went back to 3.0 as all my files looked super glitched up.. hoping we get a switch in the future for this
Anyone know if this issue has been solved in 3.2? This problem is honestly a disaster for anyone who's using blender for visualisation and concepts rather than flawless 3D modelling. It makes blender more or less unusable as a 3D visualisation tool.
i had the same bad surprise few days ago;) and to be honest i alway wondered how Cycles was avoiding this artefacts. Hope they will fix it soon;)
Serious isue right now. At least we need that no black appears, if only one overlapping face appears in render would be less noticeable.
Absolutly agree! I talked to Pablo Vazquez on "Blender Hoy" about this. He recommended to report this, so I wrote this bug
developer.blender.org/T96475
But like this is a know bug this was closed and archived..
People care about this feature and want the developers to know that. But there wasn't a proper community interaction about this, where the developers have asked the community what they actually want. I hope this can be fix in the near future. Right now Blende is broken for me.
Hear, hear! You hit the nail on the head -- I can't believe they passed this through without any community feedback D: I've always used Blender for Arch Viz and overlapping geometry is a common trait in most scenes. Sure, you can be slow and methodical to eliminate those instances, but it always comes at the cost of a far more tedious and less productive workflow.
At LEAST giving us an easy on/off toggle would be a miracle, because 3.1 has sooo many nice new features. Here's hoping they hear us out.
Agreed! We dont mind a bit slower renders, we want a good render, without overlapping. I talk to Pablo Vazquez again about this problem, he said that we need to "speak louder" to get devs attention. He said that we need to talk directly with the devs on Blender chat/ blender-coders blender.chat/channel/blender-coders
Also, we could use more votes on this post, so please, spread the word!
A simple On /Off Switch. It's all we want. To make thing look good again.
