Extend "Group Index" to more nodes
The Accumulate Field node has a "Group Index" input, which is great when you want to separate more than two sections of geometry. I think it'd be a good idea to extend that to more nodes, especially Attribute Statistic and Split Edges.
Attribute Statistic with a group index (or Accumulate Statistics) would give the statistics by evaluating only the values of elements sharing the same index, for each element. The outputs, however, would become fields if the group index is a field.
Split Edges with a group index would separate edges/faces of a mesh that don't share the same index, by splitting at the boundary points/edges between non-matching edges/faces. (The same behavior could be implemented on curves for splitting multiple splines.)
PS : Due to the different behavior/type of output of these nodes from the original, new nodes should be created instead of simply adding a "Selection/Group Index" option. I'm just presenting it that way to be more evocative.

I desperately want this. NEED this. Everything I'm attempting runs up against the same wall: lack of grouping. How lovely would it be if attribute statistics could get the maximum values of individual attribute, sorted by their IDs, all at once. And then I could feed that into the map range node, and voila, each group is normalized.
I don't think this solves the problem. Now I'm trying to come up with an idea of how I could create a kind of loop to separate the work of logic for several elements of the grid with sequential processing. The main task is to make the group index a user tool, not a parameter
