Make texture painting cursor follow surface topology

As it is, texture painting in Blender is essentially 2D, even in the 3D viewport. Essentially, the brush is just being projected orthographically from the viewport camera. This is fine if you are painting a single plane or a 3D object like a cube, where it is easy to align the faces to the viewport. The trouble comes when painting complex, curved or occluded geometry, where simply projecting the brush from the viewport camera will cause unwanted distortion and artifacts. Ideally, the cursor should follow the surface topology of the object and project the paint from that perspective.

Solution- I'm not a dev so I don't know how feasible it would be but couldn't the relevant code from Blender's Sculpting module (which already has a cursor that follows the surface topology) be integrated into the texture painting module?

When you download Blender 4.5 alpha there is an experimental option for 3d texturing brush.

In the 5.0 alpha the option is there but it doesn't seem to work.

in today's build it does work. there's a new build every day, changes happen at each build, it is possible for one build to have a bug and not the next.
