Make collection visibility (both viewport and render) animatable by keyframes or drivers

It's kind of unconceivable that you can't animated collection visibility. Let's say I have thousands of objects in a collection and at a certain point in my animation I want to turn them all off. The obvious way is to turn off the visibility of the collection but it can't be animated. And in Blender, as opposed to Maya, if you turn off the top node, it won't affect the lower hierarchy so I can't just parent them under an empty and turn that empty off. If you have a solution for me, please please please tell me because I'm stuck now.

As a workaround you can right click on the collection in the Outliner and choose Instance to Scene and use this instance of the collection instead of the original collection to animate it's visibility and position.

But it would be great if we could do that with the original collection, instead of making an instance every time we need to animate position and visibility.

* @Oskar * Huh! Instance collections... that works! But yeah, you don't want to have a mess in the outliner of a bunch of collection instances. Thanks for the tip!

collection.exclude controllable by drivers would rule.

I wonder if this should be considered a bug, I would call it at least a "known problem", I think it should be reported.
