REDSHIFT Depth of Field options for Cycles

If you're familiar with redshift render in C4D, you're aware of the flexibility that redshift has when it comes to Bokeh and Depth of Field. There are two features that redshift provide that I believe are a MUST HAVE for cycles. Feature 1: The Power parameter. When adjusting the DOF with redshift there is a power slider that affects the style of the bokeh. The effect is hard to describe with words but makes a huge impact on the render. Feature 2: 'Use Bokeh Image' This feature allows the artist to import an image to use as the bokeh. If you were to import an image of a star, the shape of the bokeh would be a star. The feature also allows to import chromatic aberration on bokeh which is also an interesting feature.

Yes this please, more native lens effects, the camera lens functions of octane are also incredible and something like that in cycles would be incredible

That bokeh thing has been in my mind for quite long. It is quite easy to do manually to your renders, but proper editor would make it little faster.

"The effect is hard to describe with words but makes a huge impact on the render" </br> So, how could any developer know what to do with this description?? ;)

* @ Lsscpp * by using other software, a thing most professional designers do and have done in the past.

You can do that in the compositor already

* @ogierm * You can't, really. 2D depth of field isn't comparable to 3D depth of field.

I like this idea a lot. For the power explanation you can just use the maxon bokeh documentation which I can't link. You can easily find it on google.

Bokeh image..ahh you've given me a new topic as a Blender Trainer, to create a video about it ;)
