Yes, there are at least 3 addons that already do this. Here's one: blendermarket.com/products/tesselator
* @testure * I love this addon. I did not know he did it. Unfortunately is paid so far. Who knows for some time with good sales and profit this type of addon does not become standard in Blender?

* @thiagocavalcantecarvalho * Bsurfaces (it is in the 2.79 package), Mira Tools, may be IceTools (did not use it for years). There is a lot of video for Instant meshes.
Why are people always pointing towards addons when the asked tool should be natively within Blender and not an addon... This request shouldn't be flagged as "done" cause it isn't.
