Better for you to assign a shortcut you like. Since the keys that you mentioned are already mostly used in different modes.
Also, for keys to affect those menus without having to have the cursor over that region, it'd mean having hotkeys that apply to the entire window so Alt+H for unhiding objects or Alt+N for normals or Alt+E for extrude would have to be removed or changed.
