Idea for previewing parent/child objects in layer mode of outliner

I saw Video Sequencer Love video and there was a problem mentioned where layer sorting mode in the Outliner doesn't show the hierarchy of the parent/child objects.

Maybe it could be solved like linked layers in Photoshop.

When object in outliner is selected the icon temporarily shows up on the side of parent and all child objects. In Photoshop it is chain icon but I know that Blender always had chain for Object Constrains so maybe dashed line (or something else).
