Using the Selection Tool not as a Tool
Hi Guys, I really appreciate how the dev team and surroundings is working hardly on making Blender great again :) Here's my question:
Why considering the Marquee Selection as an actual Tool? Wouldn't it be better to start Marquee Selecting just right after dragging the mouse? So that there is room for other tools to be picked like e.g. the Transform tool or anything else. This means we were able to use Blender even better on Tablets, we could perform simple translations without having to go back in Selection Mode. Cheers

Until this is default behavior you can modify the input settings to have this. prntscr.com/lofufp . In this setup drag mouse resets/starts new selection, Shift extends selection and Alt removes from selection. This combination is ported from my experience in 3dsMax, a good selection paradigm imho.
yes, this should honestly be default. Most pro Blender users have made their own adjustments/scripts to have this by default as it is the fastest and most intuitive way to select. See MACHIN3 or HEAVYPOLY UI for Blender 2.8 .
The problem is in what should be the default "not a tool" tool. Some users want the box, others the 3d cursor, others the transform gizmo (me)... Which tool should be the default for right click or left click, right drag, left drag? Which should be the default widgetted tool? Honestly I have no idea 😂
There was a proposal that suggested for each mouse button to be a different customizable tool. If you include the dragging actions as different tools and commands, and then widgets, you could have between 4 and 6 at the same time. Maybe that would be cool 👀
