Add a separate directory path for auto-saved files, distinct from the "Temp" folder

For context, I'm using Blender on Linux.

Currently, Blender writes auto-saves to the "Temp" folder path. This could cause problems on Linux as the default path, /tmp, is a ramdisk which is wiped as soon as the system is powered down. If a crash occurs that both causes the entire system to shut off and corrupts the .blend file, all progress will be lost.

This happened to me today when Blender ate my RAM, causing a lockup and necessitating a hard reset which zeroed out both my .blend and .blend1 files. I could have easily recovered several hours' worth of work if Blender didn't auto-save to the same folder meant for "disposable" files.

A workaround is to change my "Temp" directory path to /var/tmp or some other persistent location, but in my opinion a far better solution is to stop treating auto-saves as disposable and give them a place to persist.

Is this the setting for "Temporary Files" under Preferences -> File Paths -> Data ?

As I see it, the solution would be to change Linux builds default "Temp" path to /var/tmp (basically your workaround being promoted to standard behaviour on Linux). Autosaves are temporary files anyway, why should they "persist" more than any other temp Blender stuff?

@Lsscpp: because that's the entire point of autosave? what happens if I'm working and my power goes out? on linux, I don't have an autosave because /tmp isn't transient.
