Automating color representation / convenience feature

One chore I don't enjoy: copying the base color to the Material preview AND the Object preview. (I know it's optional, but it's nice.)

NOTE: use of this would be OPTIONAL -- if you don't like it, don't use it.

Perhaps there's an addon, BUT: I think a very nice convenience feature would be a button or context menu command to copy the base material color to A) the Material preview setting, AND B) the Object preview setting. Because Objects can have more than one Material, there'd have to be facility or convention to determine which Material to use. Like, it could by convention be SLOT #1.
