Node shelf for all node based spaces
it would be handy to have access to node creation without using keyboard , like in touch devices , pen touch devices and for accessibility reasons.

well you do have the menu at the top-left that don't require a keyboard.
Having buttons looks nice, but as you show it: there's little room for only a small fraction of the nodes. Plus if you want to show only icons instead of text, well you need a lot of icons. It's fine if you limit the elements to the icons we already have, but not if you want to scale up.
Nowadays we have 105 shader nodes, as well as 223 geonodes, and 108 compositing nodes.
We used to have buttons to add nodes in the shader editor up to version 2.79:
We had fewer nodes back then, and as you can see, it was already requiring a lot of tab space just to list the different categories. And some of them were quite populated while some other were almost empty.
I think a better approach is found in Node Pie — Blender Extensions which brings a pie menu to add nodes in each editor. It's still cluttered, but at least it shows all the nodes neatly grouped and colored by categories, and lets you build muscle memory to fetch them. And more importantly: it shows up when you need it and then goes away, no wasted screenspace. Example with the compositing nodes pie menu:
I really like that pie menu, im imagining houdinis menu rnow and how many lists/buttons are in there, it gets insane fast, it feels overwhelming af pressing right click for the first time in houdini lol
Love that mockup, looks great.
(Actually wish i had little palettes like that in the main 3D view, as well).
