Asset Browser: Import an Asset with its Children

The Problem

A common workflow is to group objects by parenting them to an Empty. If you mark this parent Empty as an asset, only the Empty is imported from the Asset Browser, leaving its children behind. This makes the asset useless and breaks a fundamental organization workflow.

The Solution

When an object is marked as an asset, Blender should check if it has children. If it does, the user should be presented with a choice or a new operator:

  • Mark as Asset (Single): The current behavior.
  • Mark as Asset (with Hierarchy): This new option bundles the parent and its entire child hierarchy into a single asset.

When an asset marked "with Hierarchy" is dragged into a scene, Blender should import the parent object and all of its children, perfectly recreating the original parented group.

the best way right now to do this is to put all the objects into a collection and mark that as asset

Remember that you can have objects in multiple collections at the same time (shift+m), so when creating assets you could link all you need into a self collection that represents the asset your want to make available in the Asset Browser and mark the collection as an asset.
