Add FPS limiter to 3d viewport preview
I’ve always had issues where my GPU would spike incredibly hot whenever I repositioned the camera or moved an object or changed anything, because it’d have to re render the scene, reasonable, but I had suspicions that it was spiking way hotter than it should be. I use a 3090, it idled at around 35c, and would spike to 60c just rotating the viewport in eevee preview.
So, I had an idea, and I went into nvidia control panel, selected blender.exe , and set an FPS cap on it and enabled vsync.
The temperature spikes because naught, it’d spike from 35c to 37c even in previewing very intense scenes, and massively reduced the power consumption by not trying to update the preview at hundreds of frames a second. On top of this. Harsh temperature spikes back and forth like that is incredibly damaging to hardware through thermal shocks. Setting the FPS cap also did not hamper the usability of the program at all.
Please add a fps cap built in to the program so you don't have to go through the gpu driver settings to force it to do this, this could save the power bills and hardware longevity of so many people.
