Convert Emty Images to Images and boost them.
Although Empty Images is intended to be a visual reference, and there is the "Import Images as Planes" addon, I think it would be useful to be able to render the Empty Images, and add some more Crop and Shading attributes.
To make realistic renders it doesn't make much sense, but for audiovisuals directly on the 3D Viewport, without the need to go through the compositor, yes.
Even some Fx like those of the Grease Pencil would also be very good to be able to apply them.

Also the ability to convert an Empty image to an Image on a polygon plane. You can convert them to grease pencil objects. It makes just as much sense to be able to convert them to images on planes without an addon.
