Ability to animate collection visibility.

I feel like it would be incredibly useful if users were given the ability to keyframe the visibility of collections.

At the moment, you cannot, as toggling the visibility of a collection merely toggles the visibility of all objects in the collection rather than working as a master switch.

I imagine there would be many uses for this, the specific one I have in mind being for convenience when creating 2D cutout rigs, which require the visibility of several objects to animated off and on at various times throughout the animation, for things like head turns, etc.

@Jason van Gumster. At the moment, if an object is in two collections at once, the object will remain visible regardless of the visibility of the collection, and it's visibility can only be toggled by manually disabling the visibility of the specific object. I imagine it would work the same way with keyframed collection visibility.

* @keyframesarecool * So, just so I'm clear, if any of the collections that object belongs to are visible, then the object should be visible? That would mean that there would only be two ways to ensure an object is hidden:

  • Hide the object directly
  • Hide all of the collections that the object belongs to.

This is the way that Blender layers currently work in Blender pre-2.8. Correct?

Yes, but only if the object is in two collections at the same time.

How would you handle situations where an object is in multiple collections, but only one of them has its visibility animated?

* @Jason van Gumster * what? thats possible? I understand that you can have linked objects but having one instance of single object in two collections is blasphemy imo.

* @Omgzdenek * collections are not «Boxes with stuff». Not objects, not containers. they are more like tags. Example: here the coin. It belongs to a) gold coins collection, b) Romanian coins collection, c) local museum collection. Coin can be exposed or not, as a part of any exibition. It is still one object with one place. It is not the multiply instance of itself.

* @Omgzdenek * Yes. It is possible. It's an incredibly useful feature that's been in Blender for a long time in both layers and groups. The loss of that feature would Blender a much less pleasant experience for users like me.

There is image sequences for 2d-switching. But yes, It will be nice to switch objects and collection visibility.

well on top of this, keying visibility is broken.
