Loading bars for file imports
As the title suggests, a simple loading bar when importing files would be nice. Something to know vaguely how fast it's going, or how much is left.
I often have to import very large models and I have no idea if Blender has been frozen for 5 minutes, or if it's actually still doing something.

It could be as simple as changing the cursor to a loading circle. At least when I click import, I will know something is happening in the background. As it is now, I double-click on the imported file 5 or 6 times before I realize it's probably just loading in the background.
* @ryanshackelford * I would still like to know relatively where I am in the loading process. As a programmer I know that this is a major PITA to actually gauge, but it's still possible to do ballpark calculations based on file size and such.
Loading bars is always kind of tricky things. It need to have some anchor points to "understand progress ". If you potentially import something so huge so u need loading bar, probably it have no sense, because it just achieve some point and then continuously show status staying on this point. If it crash on import or go to "not response" it will do the same wit loading bar or without ...
But of course it easier psychologically to wait for something when you look at some loading bar instead of just looking on freezed window. :)
* @IIIFGIII * File imports should have pretty good anchor points, as usually you are in a literal sense importing points and faces. While a little inaccurate, points imported out of bytes in file would at least give a rough approximate to the progress being made.
