Universal Left-click

At present when we opt for Left-click select, it works almost everywhere. One notable exception is the Timeline. Even with left-click enabled, clicking to change the current frame in the timeline still uses Right-click select.

Conversely, with Right-click select enabled, the Timeline uses left-click select.

This is awkward for everyone.

Is there any reason why "Select with..." can't be universal, even in the timeline and any other place I haven't noticed yet?

Semantics. You change the current frame, I select a frame to be current.

@rontarrant: "I select a frame to be current". Well, exactly, THATS's semantics. If you want consistency then using the select mouse click to select markers and keyframes to move them in the timeline makes way more sense than "selecting" the current frame. But I absolutely do get the frustration because you have to use the opposite MMB way more than the main one. I do agree with theredwaxpolice here: "Wait for the industry standard keymap" or alternatiely: Change it yourself in the preferences if you want it like that now ;)

The reason why it's the opposite click is because you don't select: You change the current frame. When using LMB select you can select markers, and now in 2.8 also keyframes in the timeline with the LMB.

@julien.kaspar: I agree with you on this. Left click selects keyframes and right-click is a natural choice for moving the timeline. I'm a left clicker and this has never bothered me.
