Add a gallery that imports+exports models and materials from online repositories
In SketchUp ecosystem, the Warehouse website provides a huge collection of community-contributed models.
We can search for any required object, download it, edit it and use it in our composition. This eliminates the need to re-invent the wheel and create all resources from scratch.
Can we have a similar system in Blender? Further, can we do it right from inside Blender?
Let us imagine that there is an editor in Blender, called Gallery (or Library ).
- We can select any object and materials in our project, and save it the Gallery .
- It contains resources from our local library, and also from online repositories.
- It shows thumbnails of all resources
- In a multi-repository situation, Gallery aggregates the models from all repositories
- If any online repository requires the user to log in, Gallery manages that for you.
- A tree panel shows categories of models. This makes it easy to locate the resource.
- We can search for a specific model/material by description, tags, user-rating or CC license
- Gallery allows us to vote/rate the models
- Gallery allows us to select an object and upload (export) it to the selected repository
- Gallery works with SketchUp models also (e.g. integration with 3D warehouse)
This design can be partly modeled based Synoptic package Manager . It can handle Linux apps from several online repositories.
