"Undo," should not affect play-head
The play-head position seems to be recorded in the undo history for some reason. This means that if I make a change, scrub through my animation to see if it looks alright, and then realize I need to undo it, I have to then "Ctrl + Z" through all of the timeline scrubbing before I actually undo the change I made.
If someone actually uses this I could understand, but IMHO it's easy enough to just go back to a frame by hand. It would be a lot nicer if undo ignored the play-head changes.

Yes that's really annoying Undo also affects the text in text editor. while scripting if you change some thing in 3d view and change text in the editor, the undo context is global and revert all changes in all contexts which is destructive and confusing. There should be a separate undo for some contexts .
It also affects your tool settings! For example, if you're weight painting and set your weight to 0.5, then paint. You undo that last paint stroke and it also reverts your weight setting, so then you have to dial in your settings again.
I thought it was to do with Global Undo being checked, but it's not.
Of note, the undo on timeline does the same in Maya too, it's not ideal.
* @etufo2 * I actually noticed the tool setting thing right after posting, as well as seeing similar playhead behavior in another piece of software (I can't remember which it was though).
It's probably a side effect of it being a "menu," and because there are a lot of menus such as particle settings which you might want unto to work for, the tool settings get undone as well.
* @etufo2 * The tools get changed in plenty of other applications, sometimes it's what you want, sometimes it isn't, and it's always annoying either way. I think Photoshop does this with brushes for instance. It definitely does it with animation timeline.
* @Josephbburg * In photoshop brush settings (and any tool settings or active tool changes) aren't recorded to the undo system. This is the same in Flash/Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, TVPaint, Clip Studio Paint too.

I can see that being annoying.
Blender's undo system in general is very 'greedy' about the kinds of events it records. I'm struggling to set up a workable drawing environment with Grease Pencil because of how an undo can change the active tool.
