ANY New entity should have it's name box selected and ready to edit

(There's ZERO downside to this, because your very next click, which you'd be doing ANYWAY , will deselect the name field.)

EVERY time you make a new entity, a Scene, an Object, a Curve, a Material, the name field SHOULD be active to allow users to immediately name it. This eliminates an aggravating click to select the item, and would lead to more items being named instead of a wall of CUBE Ns in the outliner or whatever list is pertinent.

This has literally no effect on workflows that ignore the name field anyway, it just makes it more convenient for those who want a well-organized file.

I fail to see how this has zero downside. You assume people must spend time naming each object at creation or do extra clicking, but nothing else?

Except... This is not the case.

You don't have to name each object at creation. In fact there are several situations where it'll be faster to organize your file later when you have things going on rather than engaging time at each object creation, kind of a Taylorism-like principle.

And about clicking « ANYWAY » after each object creation... This is simply untrue, what makes you think that in the first place?

There's in fact a major downside to your proposal: It blocks the user in an unwanted state. By unwanted, I mean this isn't implicitly asked by the user. The user asked to create an object, nothing more. If you lead him elsewhere and block its progression in that alternate, that's just poor UX.

Besides, most Blender users work using keyboard shortcuts, meaning this proposal will prevent most people do to anything with a newly added object.

I.E. add a cube and move it

  • now:

shift A → mesh → cube → g

  • proposal:

shift A → mesh → cube → Esc → g

If you do some layout, you do this kind of stuff up to every second.
