Smooth Shading for default
In most cases we pass our models to Smooth shading. even in hard modeling, in this case using an edge split modifier. I suggest that smooth shading be by default. or at least the option of flath / smooth shading is in a visible place for new users. (sorry for my English)

It could be an option to choose in the user preferences and that each user chooses
or you should be able to put the Angle of the Auto Smooth in the Quick Favorites
or a macro/action like in Photoshop with those 3 options, the Smooth Shading, the Auto Smooth and the Angle
I don't think smooth shading should be default. Even if you use hard surface a lot, flat shading is almost universally the best way to start a model, because you start with large, important polygons and work your way smaller in nearly every workflow, and in smooth shading, it's hard to see specific corners and edges and vertex density. Basically, it's like always being able to peek into edit mode real quick, without having to do anything.
Blender devs, please at least add the option to make shading smooth on by default! Some people may want flat shading, but I always always wants smooth shading, and have to continuously manually set my mesh to smooth shading after extruding more faces.
Very simple solution: Just make it optional in the User Preferences. That way, folks who want it can toggle it by default and folks who don't want it can let the flat shading remain the default. Very, very simple solution.
Please add an option in preferences to adjust this behavior, this is direly needed in Blender.
Please support the standard also in Blender! And for all the rest, make an option. Blender needs to focus more on artist needs. Its not a waste of time, its making computers work like humans are used to in the real world.
I think we should have the possibility to choose an automatic smooth shading. depends on each project, there is a project where you have to repeat this action for each model you make. In other projects, on the other hand, you do not need it, but it is certainly a daily action that is used a lot and could be optimized. (I apologize for my English again)
I don't think this is a good idea. I creating hard surface models every day but I always use flat shading.. it is easier to see details and it is easier to work with. Also, it is easier to see bad topology in your mesh.
I switch to smooth shading just after I create hard edges.
@conflig1: Smooth Shading + Auto Smooth on ca. 30° would be the best compromise imo. I mean you still see the wire in Edit mode to spot bad topology.
This should be such a simple thing to implement and still, even at version 4, nothing. I have my doubts as to whether this forum is even taken seriously by the developers in the first place... It only makes all the sense in the world that such a behavior should be left to preference. What does it take for pete's sakes? A million upvotes for you to even consider looking into this thing? Aw for cryin' out loud...
