Box Select Linked

Could we have an option to toggle the various Select Linked or Select Similar options on and off for Box Select Mode? This would allow us to make various selections quicker and with less effort. Specifically, it would allow us to do select 'mesh parts' or 'islands' with Box Select or Lasso Select. 3ds Max has an Element Sub-Object mode that lets the user work with 'islands' quickly but in blender the Select Linked command always involves multiple clicks / button presses.
