Single Loop cut insert at mouse pos instead of edge center
I encountered many times with this problem when edge centers were out of view and i couldn't insert edge loop at the right place under mouse. So i had to cancel the operation, zoom back and then start over inserting edge loop... I cannot do this any more, it is INTOLERABLE!!! ;D:D
It should start at mouse then can be snapped to midpoint like knife tool by pressing CTRL or reverse....

yes after having improved the snap as the middle snap. wake up blender!
I run into this occasionally and your propasal makes sense, but only for single cuts. Loop cut can insert multiple - evenly spaced - cuts at once. Placing them immediately centered on the cursor would introduce a lot of ambiguity/trouble. Please elaborate your thoughts on this.
* @mldebee * Yes you are right... Single cuts are used as many times as multiple cuts are used, there could be an option for single cut mode like by pressing CTRL or ALT key... it is annoying and kind of distraction in the intuitive polygon modeling workflow of blender...
* @mldebee * I changed the title to single loop cut insert.... to better express the idea. Thank you
* @mldebee * I wonder if could have options to insert 1 at mouse and multiple starting from mouse and evenly space out into edge after that. Like ______| | |_
So you could have them all shifted down the edge basically, when doing multi-cut. Or have a hotkey/use some modify key to go back to center snap/other snap options possibly.
bumping up this issue
strongly agree from VFX industry point of view. so called "holding loops" are added extremely often near the edge of geo. starting from middle and scroll back is such a time waste.
tried changing preset in keymap preference to start from 0.9 but the direction of the mesh is never consistent so it goes near side of the opposite half of the time.
holding ctrl/alt or some modifying key to get the loop start from mouse position would be a small change but enormous time saver. doesn't seem to be a big function to add.
The loop should be inserted at mouse position or at the active snap locations (which you can cycle through) and should be toggled by toggling snaps.
I can agree with this only as option and separate operator or modifier, like pressing ctrl or alt after click will snap loopcut to mouse position. Just because usually I am cutting by half. In my opinion it should not be dafault behavior. May be user can select, what will be default and what will act with modifier key
* @ Vyacheslav * Yes you're right. The modifier toggle is the best choice. separate operator is some how redundant.
* @ Vyacheslav * I'd prefer ctrl as a modifier: ctrl+r, position cursor over desired loop cut location, press and hold ctrl to show cut under mouse, click to confirm.
