Let warnings/alerts persist until user moves the mouse or uses the keyboard
I'm attempting to bake some textures, and looked away for just a second, --as I turned back, I glimpsed the tail end of a warning disappearing off the screen. It was a blue box in the status line.
What's the point of having timeout timers on warnings ? They should persist until the user has a chance to see them, as indicated by keyboard and/or mouse activity.

Those warnings should appear also in console, so you should be able to check them from there also. Window -> Toggle system console.
* @Blenderer * That works if you're on Windows, or if you explicitly run Blender from a console/terminal. The suggestion of the OP works for all platforms.
* @Blenderer * , I'm assuming that's true, but I bet a lot of people don't want the console constantly eating up screen real-estate.
There's already screen space allotted for these warnings, so why not continue to use THAT until the user does something, and by 'something' I mean ANYthing to indicate they are in front of their screen and paying attention, i.e. typing or moving the mouse?
I just don't see the point in having a warning that dismisses itself. That's like an oven timer that shuts off its alarm after a while. No point.
* @rwees * Oh, I didn't realize that, I just assumed that the console view was available on linux/mac too.
Agreed! All too often I go about my house doing the odd chore while my laptop renders or bakes. If something goes wrong, I'm unlikely to be there to read the warning when it does.
