Instancing Whole Child Collection for Particles

Right now you have the option to render the entire collection or single objects from the collection. It would be good to have an option to render collections within a single collection. Right now you can join multiple objects in a single mesh to get around this but then you lose control over the object data of the single parts.

Also, in your case, probably you can instance flames from candles

* @ Vyacheslav * But the candles are being instanced, so that would be trying to instance an instance.

* @yorque.ubaghs * You can instance collection on empty.

There is global problem in the blender that stops it. Blender can`t instance instances. BUT there is particle instance modifier, that make real mesh from particles and this mesh can instance new structures. For example instance You can google particles from particles. There is a limitation: particle instancer can instance only one item.

Look towards Animation nodes. It can operate with collections and, perhaps, can instance them as whole pieces.

* @ Vyacheslav * I'm not trying to instance an instance, I want to instance multiple collections on a single object.

* @yorque.ubaghs * Make particles, instance empties/dummies, convert particle system, then distribute candles (collections) to empties (instancing). Or try to find the way with AN

Before you instance collection as single object, it should be instanced. RClick on collection, instance to scene, look what happened.

* @ Vyacheslav * Sure, but then you lose the advantage of instancing them.

Hm... I thought this would be easy to do simply by creating a collection called "particles," and instancing all the collections I wanted into that collection. From the user perspective, this seems like it should work but it doesn't.

I can't personally think of a use case for this, but I agree it should be an option.

* @Zach Hixson * My use case is that I want to animate the material for a linked object, in this case the brightness of the emission shader for the candle flames. I can create the material in the layout .blend-file but then I can't assign it to just the flame objects. They have to be a separate object for this to work.
