Proposal - Panel Scaling & Editor Resize (Modifier Tab Redesign)

I and like many other users reconfigure Blender to our own comfort, but what if something seen as a form of user flexibility, is reflective of poor ui design. I am posting this to get people to really think about a particular feature.

My primary point of contention is scaling panels and resizing the editor box. Ctrl + Middle Click to scale an editor's panels is possibly an unnecessary customisation feature or more so, poor ui/ux implementation in my opinion. If not, this function blankets the underlying problematic design choices of the ui itself. I'll be using the 'Modifier' tab as an example.

I do NOT dislike the ability to scale the panels, in fact I do like the option to do so. The problem at hand is it needs to be reworked or replace with something more robust to eliminate the awkward dimensional results. This symptom is derived from the current layout and ordering of panel's content themselves. So to resolve this issue, is to propose a redesign of the format and behaviour (in relation to scaling/resizing the editor) of the panel's content.

My design isn't even close to perfection and I'm aware there can be obvious issues but the main focus is the behaviour of the panel's content in response to a narrower editor's box. Ignore colours, the ones currently used are too just to distinguish elements.

Notable changes:

  • Behaviour: Field boxes and buttons retain a static aspect ratio for the most part, with the exception of naming fields.
  • Behaviour: Editor horizontal size limit, see diagram annotation.
  • Addition of 'Display Mode', see diagram annotation.
  • Addition of commonly used numerical inputs when modifiers stacks are minimised, see diagram annotation.
  • Modifiers stack arrows are not present since im making an air assumption we might get drap and drop functionality.

Extra notes

  • Another thing to hit on the head is the lack individual modifiers' icons recognizability and are indistinguishably.

If a more rigid and well grounded design was implemented then the 'need' or 'choice' to Ctrl + Middle Click to scale would not be necessary. This resize/scale limit also applies to the other tabs under the properties editor, inheriting similar behaviour/format.

Agree, disagree, ravish me and/or additional thoughts? Lets discuss Blender's current design philosophy and its future.
