Terminolgy Confusion

I'm new to Blender and I reviewed the layout for Blender 2.8. Not bad, but according to one video I watched the gentleman who was giving instructions to this layout, highlighted icons with a box. Too bad these items were not separated by a space and labeled accordingly. Also the terms that are used do not correlate with other software terminology that I have seen in the past with other more familiar software packages. Terminology too complex for a beginner. Too bad the software does not allow the user to relabel these functions. Program seems simple enough, but the terms slow things down. Overall concept for each function seems a bit hazy too.
