Option to render in next slot for each subsequent render

Render slots are awesome for quickly comparing different renders. However I always forget to change the render slot before hitting F12. It would be great to have a checkbox in the render settings with something like "Render in next slot" that will automatically cycle through all the available slots with each subsequent render.

I agree, the times I hit F12 again by mistake instead of Saving T_T and you loose the previous render!!

I've used V-Ray for Maya a lot and V-Ray just has render history with a temporary folder (with size limit) of your choosing. So you can cycle through all previous renders. I've only ever used the Blender's render slots for different view layers.

If possible, I think having a render history per slot may be better. And the ability to to A/B comparisons.

* @etufo2 * yes that sounds even better

I agree that the render slot should be changed every time when rendering. It's really annoying to accidentally render over a previous render. For the time being, I just tried this script and it worked for me. blender.stackexchange.com/questions/26224/force-each-new-render-into-sequential-render-slot

* @Matthias Patscheider * I tried that script, but it doesn't work unfortunately in my Blender. Have you changed something in it? Can you please resend the text/ .py file?

Agree! We need it in Blender. It's the essential functionality! Other applications has it by default (in my practice it's Modo). I've lost a lot of renders because Blender overrides the current render slot.

This is basic functionality in Cinema 4D. Every time you hit render you get a new render layer. There are no slots at all, it is dynamic from the first render and in my experience there is no limit (no "slots" to contend with).

As a recent convert to Blender it is one of the things I miss the most. Please make this a part of Blender!

Great idea.
