View Transform preview switch for Viewer Node
If you've wanted to work in linear colorspace, and filmic view transforms, it's difficult trying to setup the right colors to show for anything that must end up as 16 or 8 bit srgb. You might do a render without changing Blender's render settings which would make it filmic. You get approval from your boss for that render, but not for the output image which now appears too saturated/dark.
The colors in the final image change noticeably from the intended look during conversion. This is because the range and position of the view transform is reduced and shifted to accommodate the downsize in colors. While you are making compositing adjustments, everything seems fine UNTIL you export.
Why is it only on export that we must find out how drastically incorrect the resulting colors are?.
It should be DURING the composition process that you can monitor how the final file will look, in order to drastically reduce levels of frustration and time wasted.
Right now if you want to preview how a render will appear in the standard transform, you must go into the render tab, and down to 'color management' and switch the view transform, then switch it back to continue previewing in the other transform. Then you know how your file will look when you drag it into your game engine, Photoshop, After effects etc.
The blender way of solving this: A drop down list of colorspaces on the Viewer transform node. The user can select one and the above task will be completed real time as the compositor is passed. By having Blender show us in real-time how the final view-transform appears, we can rely more heavily on compositing in Blender. This would work really well with the node wrangler.

What actually happened in the end with this despite only ONE upvote?
IT'S IN THE MAIN BUILD. Now we have an option to have compositor outputs save as render to preview target view transforms.
