MMB lock axis is removed in blender 2.91 Please enable the function to C key while moving, extruding
Sometimes we got confuse between the axes and by MMB we can quickly assign the direction, this was very handy but in 2.91 release it is removed. it is ok but please enable C key so that we can lock the direction quickly.

I've actually just solved it after hours of looking into this since 2.91 release. I have heavily modified my shortcut keys and wonder if this has tripped it up somehow. When switching back to default it worked. That led me to find the entry for it in the default keys. Somehow this entry has been removed from my shortcut keys when switching to 2.91.
To enable this again you need to go Preferences > Keymap > Transform Modal Map > Add New
Then select Automatic Constraint and choose MMB for the button press. You can also add one for Automatic Constraint Plane with MMB and Shift for the button press.
Good luck!
* @ross.mccafferty * Transform Nodal map ?
* @ross.mccafferty * I dont find Auto constraint in Transform nodal map, also tried add new but in drop down i don't find such option.
I have the exact same issue. MMB to lock axis was something I used constantly so it's really slowing me down having it missing completely. I have even done a complete format and reinstall of Windows 10 since then and it still doesn't work.
The functionality still works in my 2.91
