Select similar
Hi, I think it would be nice to have a “select similar” option for objects in scene.
Actually I found the “Select Similar” option in Edit Mode very complete but there is a lack in Oject Mode. For now, there is only an option to select objects that share linked properties (linked object data, linked material etc…) but it could be usefull to have a “select similar” for objects not already linked in one way or another.
in exemple : you modeled an object and you duplicated it many times but you forgot to tick “linked" checkbox during the operation and you want to linked them subsequently. At the moment you have to select them all by hand when a “select similar” option would do it for you.
I found this script by AFWS on BlenderArtists that do it well based on faces count :
import bpy
ACT_OBJ = bpy.context.active_object
ACT_VRTS = ACT_OBJ.data.vertices
SCN_OBJS = [m for m in bpy.context.scene.objects if m.type == 'MESH']
for OBJS in SCN_OBJS:
if len(ACT_VRTS) == len(OBJS.data.vertices):
OBJS.select_set(state=True)
Would be nice to have it build in :)
And to go further, maybe we can add others options in a “Select similar rollout” that could be relevant in certain cases :
Select similar :
- by object orientation
- by object size (bounding box size)
Maybe you guys in the forum will have somes ideas to add ;)

100% agree.. I amazed that this very useful type of selection never actually built-in Blender in the firstplace.
Btw, the link on BlenderArtist mentioned above is here
