Object's name in object info node as a string

Screenshot 2025-11-01 155016.png

There is no way to get the object's name from object info node, would be handy if we get it as a string and then we could slap it somewhere 🤚

Honestly same for collections and collection's instances names

This would be very useful. Now that we have "Visual Geometry to Object" command, it would be nice if we could use the source mesh name as base on the created objects. There are join string etc. nodes. Only thing missing is the Object Name.

Also, there are no good way to get random value per object in Geonodes. If you use the same modifier with multiple objects, they will all have the same random values. From Object name, you could create own seeds for each object.

And dev said that Object Name is not there as it would force evaluating the node graph when name is changed. In my opinion, that is quite stupid reason. With the same logic, you could remove the Transform values, as it changing those forces the Node Graph to evaluate.

A workaround would be that the node has a lazy evaluation, if the string is not used just not reevaluate the node graph

Yes, if that is possible Or, the Object Name could be a separate node. If you add it, then it should not be a surprise if it causes re-evaluation on name change.
