Triplaner projection node

Hi Blender Developers.

Thank you on your amazing progress with blender!

Im using Blender for my Achviz and architectural concept development work.

Im really missing a good triplaner solution like Redshift has. Where you can rotate textures on axis seperatly so when you rotate X then Y and Z stay the same.

So i dont have to copy textures, rotate with photoshop and then export, then import it again.

Is there any chance that could be developed for blender? That would be the biggest upgrade for blender i could imagine.

(I thow there is the option using "Texture coordinate" node im combination with "Mapping" node. But there is some issues with it like the rotation.

Short 2 min video that showcase Redshift triplaner node. youtube.com/watch

If it happens then i promise to become a montly supporter for blender!

Best regards David

yes i agree for archviz, it is very important, i also suggest to implement use of "Real world map size". i think someone can make triplanar node. Corona renderer already have triplanar mapping with option to select the blend value and even apply different maps in each direction. In between, try it- youtube.com/watch

You can make a nodegroup asset for this.

Blender always had the ability to do this, no need to repeatedly export from Photoshop. You can easily make one and turn it into a node group.

How? I have Google'd everything. I can find no resources of doing it. Only standard mapping/texture coordinate setup. And it can not do it.

I see. But with this setup I need to plug in 13 nodes every time so get something similar to triplaner mapping that you can do with 1 node in most other renders. I think I got around 50-100 triplaner based shaders in my last project.

Why? There always have been node groups you can save as reusable setups, and in recent versions you can even make them into assets you can drag and drop.

I don't understand why you are so much against a triplaner node. I just really like the triplaner system from octane, redshift and so on. But everyone has there own workflow. ☺️

It's not that I'm against it, I can certainly see its uses. In fact I have made one myself I use all the time in my projects. I just don't think it is something the developers should be spending precious time and resources on, since there are already good enough workarounds with current tools. I'd rather see improvements in other areas that don't currently have good workarounds, like better performance for procedural textures, or improved custom node group UI like dropdowns and enums.

Alright personally triplaner is the number one thing that is missing from my experience with blender and archviz. So agree to disagree. :-)
