Collection and Objects Opacity

It would be super helpful if we could change an object or collection display opacity, like we see in image editors. And maybe, even if its possible through render passes and compositing, we could change the type of overlay, like normal, multiply or soft light.

The problem with that is 1 object can exist in hundred of different collections. If 2 collections have different opacity, what opacity should be used for an object that exists in both. see example at bottom: blenderartists.org/t/is-there-anything-else-you-should-know-about-collection-instances/1302683

That is already possible. You just have to lower Alpha value of color used to distinguish objects in Viewport. If Color is set according to material, you just have to lower alpha value of Color field from Viewport Display panel in Material Properties Tab. If Color is set according to Object Color, you just have to lower alpha value Color field from Viewport Display panel in Object Properties Tab. And for render, you just have to change Alpha value of material.
