Ability to Go Back to Previous Selections In Edit or Object Mode

* Updated

I think it would be really helpful to have a feature/Shortcut key where a user can go back to Previous Selections whether it be edit or object mode (like going back to previously selected vertices, Faces, edges, objects, lights etc) without using CTRL+Z or Object history.

If there were a hotkey for this, what would it do? Would it pull up a menu? What would be the contents of that menu? Could you customize the labels?

If selections have to be maintained for a long time, then how would this differ from vertex groups in Edit mode... or regular groups (or collections) in Object mode?

@Jason van Gumster: Thank you for replying :) Upon Pressing the hotkey, it would show a pull up menu for upto 5 or 10 entries each named according to previous selections, automatically (kinda like the repeat history menu when you press F3) . Like if i selected 10 vertices, then selected 5 faces to do something else, then selected 3 edges to something else, the menu would present the entries in the order like above. The entries would be named Like this:

Select any entry from below to go back to one of your previous selections:

  1. Vertices (10)
  2. Faces (5)
  3. Edges (3)
  4. etc...

Sorry i don't know the reply to the 2nd paragraph :)
