Longer Bone Names
Blender 5.0 gave users the option to create longer names for several things within Blender. Such as objects, materials, and actions. These new names are able to have up to 255 characters.
Unfortunately, bones have not gotten this update, and are still limited to 63 characters.
It would be incredibly useful for bones to also have up to 255 characters, as longer names wouldn't have to be truncated or compressed in some other form.
Essentially, the exact same reasons why you'd want longer names for objects and materials also apply for bones. Probably even more so, since bones often have very similar but still different functions and longer names would be incredibly useful for distinguishing them more easily.

This sounds like an oversight from when the developers were updating it. You should probably report it as a bug.
