Multiple smoothing angles for the same object.

Hi!

I am a student studying 3d art and primarily work on low poly models for games. I've been using Blender as my main modelling software for about 4 months now (previously working on 3dsmax).

There are only 2 issues I have with blender! One of them is having weird shadings on low poly models. The way we minimize the shading is by adjusting the smoothing angle for the particular object.

But the situation that I will meet most of the time is that I want multiple smoothing groups for the different faces of the same object which i unable to do.

If a feature such as this already exists, please feel free to tell me right away (:

Basically, this is something similar to smoothing groups that we have in 3dsmax but it does not necessarily deal with forming different smoothing ids. And we cannot set the angle in Max.

The feature that we could implement in blender will give more control to the artist because of the ability to set the smoothing angle.

I am no programmer so I do not know if this is hard to implement. But i feel it is a fairly simple concept that is much needed for artists working on low poly models. It will be a big boost for Blender to be more reliable for the games industry.

Thank You!

You can 'manually' mark edges as sharp -Edge menu(Ctrl+E)/Mark Sharp But auto smooth must be turned on

(i usually set it to 180º and semi-manually set needed edges sharp cause i need to have full control)

@Pawel Piotrowski: My other issue with the blender smoothing is that the dense areas stick out like a beveled edge, even though the surface is flat.

This is a problem for low poly models where we don't have the flexibility to have evenly spaced line flows.

The smoothing angle does not fix this issue. I just need a way to force even smoothing seen in other softwares.
