SEQ: Create a TIME-ANIMATION transform clip

The idea being a clip goes into the timeline that represents some source footage/clip/movie...

The clip is controlled by an animation curve, and or a driver.

What is being controlled is WHICH FRAME of the clip is being displayed as the main timeline plays.

i.e. if the clip referenced is 400 frames, a curve value of 0 would display the first frame of the clip, and a curve value of 1 would display the last clip.

This time-remapping clip would also allow keyframing which frame is being displayed.

So the curve can be used to animate time in a clip, fast/slow, forwards, backwards.

So you can animate a scrubbing effect, looping, and smooth acceleration into and out of stops.

This feature is already done with Time Control sequencer strip. It has also more features, but the cruicial is the ability to control time with F-curve. Or speed. Or automatic remapping of time depending of the length of the strip. It is awesome tool, the only problem is that the overall quality of time-stretched videos is not very good, because there is no good algorithm for frame interpolation based on optical flow. I hope to solve this issue in the Future :)

I think I've seen something similar in Maya - an animator used it to re-time his reference footage to give it more snap. The current way to do this in VSE is to cut footage up into separate clips and then use the Speed effect to slow sections down or speed them up.

Retiming video clips using the output value of an F-Curve as a frame number would be a less clunky and far more flexible way to go.
