Support for image sequence packing

If you make animations, chances are :

you sometimes use animated textures from image sequences or movies

you need to use a renderfarm or some network to render them

Unfortunately, some renderfarms or network settings only accept .blend files (no .zip), and since Blender currently doesn't support movie and image sequence packing, you won't be able to use those renderfarms.

So to me this is would be quite useful.

Yes yes and YES! This would be extremely beneficial for me. I often have gigs and gigs of raw footage that I edit, and I don't put all of that raw footage on my backup or else I would run out of space quickly or have a HUGE bill and take hours to upload.

If I could pack the used footage I could then easily place the final .blend files into my backup without 1. having to figure out all the files I used AND their folder structure or 2. putting all the files and folder structure including the unused ones into the backup.

Why omit only video or image sequences from being packed? That is 100% illogical to me. If the file is part of the project, pack it. <- that's a period

I have many projects that the working files are not backed up for this reason--and laziness. (frown)

And for those of of you who think packing weewy weewy big fwiwles is ridiculous, go back to your 5-1/4" floppies. Data is getting bigger, deal with it.

Doing this would make .blend files obscenely large. Part of the reason that those farms don't accept image sequences is to preserve some bandwidth costs. I recommend simply switching to a farm that does support image sequences.

I'm still of the opinion that adding such a feature opens a pandora's box and personally wouldn't recommend it. Instead, I'd suggest that renderfarms that don't support linking and external sequences need to be improved.

* @Jason van Gumster * I don't see any pandoras box. If you don't like the feature don't use it. I would love to have this feature to move my files for rendering to another computer than where I created the movie without having to replicate my whole file structure of terabytes. I am not scared of hundreds of gigabytes a file for this purpose. After rendering I will delete it anyway. Also for archive purposes this feature would be invaluable. I am surprised blender can't do it already.

If render farms need to limit bandwidth, they should limit file/upload size. Argument invalid.

There are also sprite animations done with image sequences that don't increase the blend file size and it would be so convenient to pack them. I don't even care about render farms, just for things to be foolproof when exchanging scenes.

This would be really useful. I often use the “pack all resources” function and then “un-pack” to collect all my assets. Ideally, I would like to have an option to collect all the assets and choose a new location to save the file, ready to share with others
