Make it possible to have two viewports: one in object, one edit mode

I'm currently trying to model a pixelated mouse cursor, but it's super tedious because I have to switch between object and edit mode all the time, so I can preview the effect of the 'remesh' modifier.

it would be super helpful if I could simply have two viewports open; one in object, one edit mode.

i know that the new dependency system will give us the possibility for example to have an animation playback in one viewport and the other fixed for editing, but i don't know about different editing modes.....u can though switch between workspaces quickly with ctrl+pageup/down they can have different modes.

The way edit mode works is per-object, so it would require a fundamental change of how viewports work. Alternatively, you already have an option to show the results of the remesh modifier while in edit mode, why not just use that?

@testure: looks like I'm still too much of a blender noob. – how exactly would I do that?

@Horatio Engelmann: in the Remesh modifier check that box with white small one.
