override samples, adaptive sampling and noise threshold for specific objects or materials

Sometimes you get a certain object in the scene that requires more samples or min/max samples, a lower noise threshold, or even adaptive sampling disabling altogether.

It would be great if in each object and each material, there was a samples override section that told Cycles to give more love to it.

The alternative at the moment is to raise samples for the entire scene, or render specific objects separately (which can take a long time for scene compilation due to the the rest of the scene still needing to be included set to indirect only)

Think for example a subsurface material that needs higher min samples and 4 times more max samples to achieve the noise threshold than the rest of the scene. Or an object in a dark area that needs adaptive sampling disabling on it because of swirly artefacts.

'Adaptive sampling' does exactly the same thing as 'sampling overrides', just with far less settings to adjust. As I'm sure you're aware, redshift has had sampling overrides for years, lately however they've pushed those options out of the way and replaced them with the automatic sampling threshold feature, which basically renders your scene continuously until the noise threshold is reached. This is also possible in cycles, if you set the max samples to something ridiculously high (ex: 32000 samples) and adjust the noise threshold to your liking. Sampling overrides is just a manual way of setting up automatic sampling, there is no need for all those additional settings

As for 'an object in a dark area that needs adaptive sampling disabled', the issue here is the adaptive sampling minimum sample count. By default its 0. Try increasing the minimum to atleast 128 samples, that should get rid of your swirly artifacts.
