Option to add segments to Solidify modifier thickness
Hi,
I would really love to see an option added to the Solidify modifier to increase the number of thickness segments.
This would be very useful for adding a subdivision modifier after Solidify, and for deformation modifiers.
Thanks.

This would be nice to have and possibly with a profile option for the segments similar to the bevel modifier.
A more modular approach could be to have a modifier that adds edge loops by quad width and weights their spacing with angles would be great for quickly creating even topology. Seems related to the approach for the Bevel modifier.
* @northgoingzak * Sounds good too! Thanks for your additions.
* @Metin Seven * Sorry if this is too far away from the topic, but while we are at is, I have always wanted a transformation matrix for the extruded front, or at the very least being able to constrain it to an axis.
I was surprised when I discovered it didn't already have this feature. Would be great to have.
Good idea! 👍
Up for that! Well needed feature in my opinion.
Oh yeah, I want that...... :)
On a vertex group. Yes.
That is so sad. Someone actually coded the feature but it never got reviewed so it never got added to blender: developer.blender.org/D10737
Is there a way to add it to my blender right away?
Yee-haaww! 😃👍

I don't think this is a good idea. The rim segments could be generated by solidify and it would be very simple for the simple mode, but not so simple for all the rim configurations of complex mode (which can contain any tri/quad/ngon).
I believe this feature is needed, but if I would do it, I would do it in the Bevel Modifier as "bevel faces"/inset with the rim vertex group from solidify as mask. That way all bevel features can be used like curved profiles etc.
EDIT: It may actually be very good to have this as a solidify simple mode exclusive option. I think the code is already in a good state to be able to add that there with very good performance.
Thanks for the support guys!
