More customizability with Text Strip
First and foremost, the lack of outline feature is THE deal breaker for me. I only need this one more thing to use the sequencer as my daily editor.
It doesn't need any fancy algorithm to achieve, this is just taking the edge of the image and expand them by a few pixels with a different color.
(I do aware there is a add-on for this , but this works by generating more strips, which would make changing text really annoying.)
Okay, the request for outline isn't new, but I do have some further suggestions.
This is a text with character size and position changed midway through, and the solid colors are filled with color ramps.
If this is achievable, it would mean a lot for people like me making clips with captions or subtitles.
But how exactly? Well, recently in the Blender 3.0 build, we can use text as input in the Geometry nodes.

What if we can have a node system for the strips?
Like Compositing Nodes, add the text nodes into them, and making it bridge over to sequencer.
Yeah it would make the playback very slow, and caching is probably not as easy as I would imagine.
But this idea is just so cool that I have to make a proposal for it.
Or just adding outline option would be fine. Please give the text strip some love.

There's a proposal about the compositor nodes and a discussion about it here . If you want to you can give feedback about it there.
