Fill Selection

This is a Selection tool that C4D has that is very handy. You can select a loop of polygons for instance, and then with the Fill Selection tool you can select the entire rest of the polygons on one side or the other of your loop selection.

This video shows how it works.

You may be tempted to say that we have this feature already by selecting an Edge Loop and then going to Select>Select Loop Inner Region -

But you can see from this example that it doesn't work if you have a complex mesh of several joined objects. It will only select up through the linked polygons of the object. In C4D, the Fill Selection tool would flood fill select all of the polygons on whichever side of the boundary loop.

I actually wrote a script that does this, not something I can share in its current state but maybe I can make it a standalone addon.

Hi testure, any news on sharing this as an addon? Looks exactly like something i'm currently looking for in blender as well.

sorry this totally fell off of my radar, I put it on my calendar to spend a bit of time on it in the next couple of weeks. shouldn't take very long once I actually start it though

Still no tool for this in blender? I see alot of ways around it, but all too clickey... :(

I think this could work well as the Select Linked tool (L key) with an option to: fill selection up to selection border (like 2d painting tools) just like the testure script works...

This is one of the features I miss most in Blender.

You can also try "Select/Side of Active" which propagates on disconnected elements and in all axis modes.

I tried that as well, and it doesn't have the necessary control I'm needing. The selections I'm trying to make are at arbitrary angles and don't correspond to any particular axis. BUT I came across this addon that covers what I'm trying to do.

I also use this addon. After C4D, it's a lifesaver.
