Menu/Piemenu Last Operation behavior
During intensive linear work, there is a need to repeat the last selected menu operations. Shift+R workflow is usually broken with complex selections like Ctrl+LMB (select shortest path) in edit mode, or tweaking in object mode. This proposal is about the ability to invoke last selected menu item with double click of the menu shortcut.
For instance - if X - delete edges was selected last, XX should delete edges until another operation will be selected from the "X" menu. (First X will open menu, second X will evaluate previously invoked menu item)
If i - LocRot was selected last, "ii" keypress will set LocRot until another option will be selected from i menu.
For complex shortcuts like Shift+S: Shift+S, Shift+S (pressing S twice without releasing Shift) should invoke last Cursor operation.
and so one. This behaviour will eliminate the need to aim the same menu item during linear work with lots of repetitive operations.
The very first menu item can be set by default, so XX action in a new scene will delete the cube in object mode or its selected vertices in edit mode.

Wouldn't this break the existing in-menu hotkeys? For instance, the snapping menu has selection to grid bound to 'S' already.
* @Andrew Z * I understand the proposal of Paul Kotelevets as a supplement to the existing hot keys. In the snapping example "s + s" would be the access for the last used snapping option. But it would be necessary to test if these functions are compatible with each other. :)
* @Henry Neumann * sure. Testing concepts is always necessary for practical use.
Huge change and needs to be tested but idea is amazing!
This would more generally be referred to as a Macro recorder in other programs. You can already do this with scripting (I think), but having a UI for it would be great.
sounds amazing! would like to try it
That's a beautiful idea. Maybe a hint in the viewport or the status bar would be a useful addition, showing the user that he can repeat the last command by double-clicking on the shortcut.
