While I don't disagree with the usefulness that you may get from this, it occurs to me that perhaps you're not aware of the keyframe types feature that's already in Blender.
* @Jason van Gumster * The issue with keyframe types is that with the color/shape change,comes behavior change as well. What if I just wanted to change keyframe colors to note something on the dope sheet. You can't without changing the behaviour,like brakedowns being as if attached to keyframes ...etc.
* @okuma_10 * exactly, I know about keyframe types, and consider the feature I comment, works complementarily with them
